Officially two long years since Alexis was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. It has really been a week of reflecting, celebrating, tears and more appointments. On the 23rd was when her tumor popped out, 24th a day @ Scripps RB, 25th admittance to Children's and 26th biopsy.. Our lives forever changing. But everyday I awake with my daughter in this world, I can never have a bad day, I can deal with anything.
Finally hyperbaric work has begun, so 1 1/2hrs a day she is locked in to the chamber for the next 21days, then another 10-20 days but only for a few days in the week. She spent most of today sleeping, some pain from the long car rides and the fun times of the week. Tessa has had two softball games with a home run, triple and many singles. Tomorrow she will add to her weeks totals.

Lex has had a monster of a weekend. Kierstin/Shelby popped in and took her to a movie on Fri. night.. Shelby has a truck so the wheelchair is no problem. Then Saturday came back and took even Maris to the mall... It was lots of laughing, some new purchases and more laughing. Then for Valentines her good friend Harriet came for the night.. They have not seen each other for 5yrs, but jumped right back into best friend status.... I tell you nothing makes me happier than hearing Lex laugh and be a normal teenager..Of course exhaustion along the way for Lex, small naps, some pain but she is used too it.... Now more time with Kierst/Shelby, watching Pearl Harbor.... It was such a blessing to have so much help and moments for me to spend time with Tess & Maris.... While Lex napped, we played a great game of scrabble.... Nice ... >> full...

It has been a down pour of rain here in Diego, the worst I have ever seen. And then after a day of doctor appts in the rain lead to a down pour of tears.. It has taken me a few days to collect my thoughts and attempt a post. Great news first: Started laser treatments 3x's a wk with Dr Specht in Encinitas to try and kill the infection that way.
second: X-rays @ Dr Yaszays looked great, no walking for another 5mos and he took his time to explain it all. He is a Ewings sarcoma survivor and helps us all a great deal.. Still looking for a new Ortho Oncologist, but no one wants to let her keep her leg.. So Lex is battling down for an extra inning game and we are supporting her.
Third: off to Dr Pong the infectious disease specialist, PICC line got ... >> full...

This is an amazing nightmare ( would love to type F******). My back has finally given out from lifting the heavy wheelchair into the truck.. I have nursed it for the past week and it had enough last night.. I was so bad today, I cried for help.. Thank God Lex was sleeping, because I couldn't get up to give her the crutches.. Nicole came to save me, as I slept, but was here if Lex woke.... Dom came tonight to give me time off, but she will be home tomorrow and three doctor appts on Monday.... This is never ending and ANY PRAYERS ARE THE GREATEST GIFT AT THIS TIME...... Hugs: Horizontal Mom

Great friends, Grant, Kayla, Christina and Steven came over to have Friday movie night with Lex.. They have been a huge support system to her through this 2year journey.. It was pizza, snacks, candy and lots of laughter. They enjoyed the movie Hangover... Lex only got a little nausea after running her medicine in her PICC line, but she is a trooper like always.. It has been a rough start to a new year, but this was a great moment FINALLY... It has been days full of Doctors appt, no real answers yet.. I will try to post soon, it has just been so busy and exhaustion takes over my free time... Have a wonderful weekend to all.. XXX&OOO's Donna Mom to Yaya, Tessa & Maris.

The test finally came back from UCSD with the antibiotic that will kill the bacteria, it is Rocephin two times a day through her PICC line. I have just finished giving the morning dose.. Having issues with her PICC line, so we might have to make a trip into Children's today to have another one placed.
But milestones are happening. Lex was able to get up on her crutches and get a shower. Her pain is being controlled which is the greatest gift to me. I hate having her in pain and not being able to give her anymore meds. So this is the best of all three surgeries that she is comfortable.
Lots of angels at work, helping make our holiday brighter..The Dalton's gave us an early X-mas gift, Thank you to the Reilly's, we had a great visit and Vince looks so good. He is having his leg ... >> full...

We made it home, but a list full of question marks. She is sleeping in her hospital bed in the living room, kitty's at her feet. Today a package was brought to her from my cousins in Rhode Island, Dan & Karen... It was a box full of Kitty things and a nice letter... She enjoyed it within her few moments of not sleeping.... This is driving me Crazier, emphases on the ER... We pray to get Lex to the hyperbaric chamber this coming week and that the specialist for prosthesis infection can help her. I was trained to give her antibiotics through her PICC line, this will just keep it all at bay, no real solution... This is a beyond frustrating time. Our Christmas tree sits in its bucket outside, it had so much promise before surgery. Maybe tomorrow, lights & decorations??? Always taking each day as it happens.... That is ... >> full...

Stuck in Children's Hospital, getting sick of this place after TWO YEARS. But we FINALLY recieved the information as to WHY the prosthesis is not staying attached to the bone. INFECTION, still collecting info, gathering info and very pissed off.
Yaya got a PICC line placed yesterday so her antibiotics can go in twice a day, with an unknown end date at this time.... To keep typing is just creating more anger for what my daughter has had to endure... But after being tortured yesterday, she is smiling and looks beautiful in her braids...... She has a new best friend, Vic.... Please add Vic to your prayer list, he is 9 and was hit by a car in Sept.... They bring eachother much joy.
It is hard to leave Alexis and get to a computer... It is constant care and a constant stream of doctors.
Also pray Dr Pong, Yaszay ... >> full...
